Plot Summary
Barot House is a psychological thriller set in the small city of Daman. The story revolves around the seemingly-happy Barot family, comprising of a married couple Amit and Bhavna Barot, the couple’s four children, Shreya, Shruti, Sneha and Malhar, Amit’s mother and his brother.
The idyllic existence of the Barot family is shattered when two of their three daughters are murdered. The murders plunge the family into grief, suspicion and paranoia. While Amit tries to protect his family, Bhavna slips into depression. The needle of suspicion for the murder falls on Amit’s recently released brother, Ajay.
In a twist, Amit’s son Malhar confesses to the murders of his sisters. However, in the juvenile home, the psychologists conclude that Malhar is lying to shield the real murderer, his father Amit. Consequently, the police arrest Amit and Malhar is released from juvenile home.
In a bone-chilling climax, the identity of the actual murderer is revealed, with Bhavna discovering the same in a dramatic manner. The movie ends with Amit and Bhavna leaving the Barot House, devastated and emotionally scarred.
Key Thematic Inspirations
Barot House draws from juvenile crimes involving minors who kill their own family members, including siblings. The core theme of the movie mirrors rare cases of sibling murder. As per mental health experts, children can be driven to sibling murder by undiagnosed mental disorders, family dynamics like favouritism or repressed emotions and lack of early intervention for behavioural red flags.
